Understanding TPWS vs ATP
Technical Questions
Can someone explain the main differences between TPWS and ATP? I understand they're both safety systems but I'm a bit confused about when each is used.
Is one more modern than the other? Do different routes use different systems?

TPWS (Train Protection & Warning System) is the older system. Most routes have it now.

ATP (Automatic Train Protection) is more advanced - provides continuous speed monitoring.

ATP is on newer routes like HS2. TPWS is more common on older lines.

Both are safety systems but ATP is more sophisticated. You'll learn the differences in training!
