Structure every answer with STAR
STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action, Result. Interviewers at train operating companies use it to score whether your answers are concrete and safety-first: set the scene briefly, state what you were responsible for, describe exactly what you did, and finish with the outcome. Two to three minutes per answer is the sweet spot.
Use real examples from work, education or volunteering — assessors probe for detail, and rehearsed-sounding answers unravel quickly under follow-up questions. Practise yours aloud until the structure is automatic, so on the day you can spend your attention on the question, not the format.
