How long did you wait before getting your first posting?

💬 General Discussion

Just passed my final assessment last week and now waiting for my posting. How long did it take you guys to get your first depot allocation? I've heard it can be anywhere from a few weeks to several months depending on the TOC.

Getting a bit anxious sitting at home!

Congrats on passing! I waited about 3 weeks for my posting. It depends on depot availability - some are fuller than others.

I waited 6 weeks - felt like forever! Got my first choice depot though so it was worth the wait.

Some people from my course waited 2+ months. It really varies by TOC and time of year. End of year tends to be slower.

@guardtodriver - which TOC did you apply with?

I'm with GWR. Recruiter said it could be 4-8 weeks depending on depot allocations.

GWR are decent at keeping people informed. You should get regular updates while you wait.

Use this time to rest! Training is exhausting and you'll need to be fresh when you start at depot.

@controller is right - enjoy the downtime! Once you're posted, life gets busy quickly.

Does anyone know if you can request a specific depot? I've got family in Birmingham and hoping to get posted there.

@rookie - you can usually request but they make no promises. Depends on business needs at the time.

I got my third choice but honestly it worked out for the best. Sometimes you don't know what's good until you try it!

Patience is definitely key in this job! From application to posting can take 12+ months sometimes.
