What attracts you to working in a safety-critical role like train driving?

When I started thinking about a career change, I spent time reflecting on the type of work environment that brings out the best in me. I realised that I am most motivated in roles where there are clear standards, the consequences of doing the job well are tangible, and the people around me take their responsibilities seriously.

I needed to find a career that aligned with these values and offered a genuine sense of purpose and responsibility.

I researched safety-critical industries and was drawn to the railway. The more I learned about the train driver role, with its structured procedures, continuous competence development, and the direct link between a driver's actions and passenger safety, the more it felt like the right fit.
